Mike Brown joined the team at Sports Orthopædics Spinal in 2009 and brings with him a wealth of clinical knowledge and expertise. Mike obtained his BPhty from the University of Otago in 1995 and prior to coming to the UK in 1997 he was employed at one of the largest sports injuries clinics in the South Island of New Zealand. During this time he was also the Physiotherapist for the University of Canterbury rugby team. Since 1997 Mike has been employed in various NHS trusts as an Extended Scope Physiotherapist. Mike is still employed part time in the NHS and currently holds one of the highest clinical posts for NHS West Kent. He is the Lead Physiotherapist for the Acute Back Pain service at Pembury Hospital where he specialises in the assessment and treatment of patients with low back pain and sciatica.
As well as low back pain, Mike has a particular interest in the rehabilitation of lower limb injuries. In 2003 he co-authored a research paper on the effectiveness of Physiotherapy following knee cartilage (meniscal) surgery and has also been involved in research regarding ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injuries.
In 2004 and 2006 Mike completed post graduate diplomas in injection therapy and orthopaedic medicine. Mike also practices acupuncture as part of his physiotherapy practice.
