Gitte Nielsen is a Chartered Physiotherapist with a specialist interest in sports injuries especially in the adolescent population.
After qualifying from University of East London in 1997 with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Physiotherapy, Gitte gathered experience from both the NHS and Private Practice in both the UK and New Zealand.
Her experience in Sports Medicine has included working with amateur rugby and football teams, England’s Junior Volleyball and Badminton teams, which culminated in full time positions at The Border Reivers’ professional rugby team, in Scotland, and later with Team GB Sprint Canoeing. Her passion for managing injuries in the adolescent sports enthusiasts developed during her work with the elite teams. After encountering many athletes who still suffered from injuries in their adult lives, which dated back to their growing years, it became apparent that many children and teenagers are left to recover spontaneously from their injuries. However, due to the high demand on the body during maturation from childhood to adulthood some teenagers recover only sub-maximally from biomechanical injuries.
After completing her M.Sc. in Sports Physiotherapy from Cardiff University, Gitte now divides her time between clinical practice and lecturing to undergraduate physiotherapy students.
Gitte is member of the Sports Medicine, and Acupuncture specialist interest groups of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
