Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy sits at the very heart of the services offered at our SOS Centres in Weybridge, Sevenoaks and Brentwood. It is often the initial recommendation of local GP's and SOS Centres Consultants to start a patients treatment and rehabilitation process.

A Physiotherapists Role

The primary role of a Physiotherapist is to promote the recovery of a body's joint movement and stability, neural mobility, muscular flexibility, strength and conditioning, as well as proprioception (balance) and co-ordination. This enables the body to return to normal function and reduce the body's defence mechanisms such as pain, inflammation, swelling and spasm.

Clinical Experience

All the Physiotherapists employed at SOS Centres have attained 'Senior' status and continued to expand their knowledge with post graduate education including Masters Degrees in Sports Medicine and Manipulative Therapy. They have also been exposed to a wide diversity of patient groups and almost all have been involved at elite sporting levels working with Great Britain Representative Teams, Professional Sportspersons, Professional Sporting Organisations and Clubs. Patients can therefore be assured that any clinician they see at SOS Centres possesses a high degree of expertise and experience.

SOS's Ethos

The ethos that all SOS Centres Physiotherapists work towards is finding the cause of an individuals problems rather than just treating their symptoms, as we say: 'Treat the cause and the symptoms go away of their own accord'. This starts with an indepth discussion regarding the presenting medical condition and moves on to a thorough clinical examination.

Physiotherapy Assessments

During the assessment process the Physiotherapist may also utilise SOS Centres highly resourced analysis and exercise suite to investigate a variety of areas including an individuals postural and biomechanical alignment, muscular performance, functional movement patterns and co-ordination. Once the assessment process has been completed the Physiotherapist can formulate a programme of treatment and rehabilitation based on their findings.

Evidence Based Practice

The treatments conducted at SOS Centres are focused on 'evidence based practice' (treatments that research has shown to be of benefit) and directed towards a 'hands on' and corrective exercise approach, utilising electrotherapy equipment (Ultrasound, TENS, Interferential, Laser etc) only when necessary.

Multidisciplinary Support

With the support of one of the UK's largest multidisciplinary teams specialising in musculoskeletal conditions, your Physiotherapist may recommend a referral onto a medical, surgical or therapy colleague for further opinions and investigations. If this proves necessary it should be seen as one of the great advantages of attending SOS Centres, because we can consider, communicate and coordinate an individuals care pathway to deliver the best results possible.
