Rowan Pool is the Hip and Paediatric specialist for SOS Centres Weybridge.

He trained at Leeds Medical School obtaining his M.B. Ch.B. in 1974. His Orthopaedic training was undertaken in a number of hospitals culminating in the South West Thames Training Scheme based on St. Georges hospital in Tooting, London with a year spent in Adelaide in South Australia.

In 1988 he was appointed as Consultant in Orthopaedics and Trauma at St. Peter's Hospital, Chertsey and the Rowley Bristow Hospital in Pyrford Surrey. There he developed the paediatric Orthopaedic Services including the paediatric aspect of the Limb Reconstruction service dealing mainly with congenital deformities and paediatric trauma.

He left the NHS to practice as an independent consultant in 2002 and has been involved in the development of hip resurfacing and the use of large diameter total joint replacements and is involved in teaching and research, working with a Research Nurse and the company who produce the components. He has written articles on these subjects. He is also a specialist in the technique of Hip Arthroscopy to diagnose and treat conditions such as articular and labral tears.

He still practices Limb Reconstruction using the Ilizarov system and also undertakes knee and foot surgery and employs a Liaison Sister to assist in patient care with paediatric and reconstruction work.
