Paul Allen is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in conditions of the Knee.He qualified from Kings College Hospital, London in 1970 and went on to train in Orthopaedics at St. Thomas’ Hospital, London culminating with a year as Associate Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.
In 1984 Mr Allen was appointed as Consultant in Orthopaedics and Trauma at Lewisham Hospital and in 1990 he was appointed Knee Surgeon to Guy's Hospital. Whilst at Guys and Lewisham Hospitals, Mr Allen was heavily involved in medical education being surgical tutor for both Orthopaedic and General Surgery. This has continued since this time with Mr Allen also being a recognised teacher at the University of London and is a visiting lecturer at Surry University on the postgraduate Biomedical Engineering course.
In 1995 Mr Allen moved to the Orthopaedic department at Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough where he is now the Clinical Director. Mr Allen still continues his NHS work at the Princess Royal University Hospital while his private practices are at Sevenoaks Medical centre, Chelsfield Park and the Sloane Hospitals.
Mr Allen’s research interests include patellofemoral disorders, radiological assessment of the degenerative knee and osteotomies about the knee. He has authored and co-authored numerous papers and presented the findings of many of these papers at national and international orthopaedic meetings. He deals with all conditions affecting the knee joint especially knee injuries, disorders of the patellofemoral joint and the treatment of the young adult degenerate knee. He has performed over 1,000 knee arthroplasties and has the largest series of osteotomies in the country.
